Hold tight - RDE contest results & other demos posted! - 7:03

As everyone seems to be giving away 'presents' here at PQ (thank you Will for embarrassing me with that e4m5 story :) I figured it was about time you got to see the contest results of the big RDE contest held when the pack was released. Yep, it's true, all demos have been updated! Head over to the Runner's Delight page where 9 fresh megs of demos are waiting for you...

And speaking of contests, don't forget to miss the results of the CSA contest at Mineral's.

Madcoop Mk II - 8:35

And here's another old madcoop. An easy 100% of Episode 1 in 8:35, done by Jesse, Ilkka, myself and Mattias Berggren. This can't count as a proper demo as there were a couple deaths, but it's good fun nonetheless.

12/24/1999 by Will

'Twas the Madcoop before Christmas - 17:44

I just thought I'd upload this as a sort of Christmas present to everyone. It's an old madcoop by Jesse, FAB, Sokrates and myself- an easy 100% of the whole of Quake in around 70 minutes! Unfortunately, it's only from my perspective, but I really didn't feel like uploading an extra 12 megs much in the same way you'd probably get bored of watching an extra three and a half hours of demos. There's no E2M3 demo, I'm afraid, but you'll just have to live with that.
Anyway, it features lots of grenade-jumps done without the counter with bad pings, not to mention much amusing cursing when things go wrong, and Jesse's dumbness at the end of E4M5 has to be seen to be believed =)

Merry Christmas, tout le monde.

Space Manoeuvres - 13:09

It's been a long time, but there is a Quake2 demo to update! New player, The Shaws has made this demo on Space for us: That's all for now! Bye.

Links fixed - 12:25

The Contoton demos' links from my last update have been fixed, grab the map and check out the demos.

Also, don't forget the CSA speedrun contest at Mineral's. If you still haven't seen the contest map by Attila, it's time to check it out now! The deadline for the contest is 19th December.

Some demos - 9:37

Yes, it has been quite a while since my last update. The reason is the usual, and I do not have time to update all the demos even now. The ones I'm going to update now have been sent a long time ago, before the new sdaincoming -system. As always, you can download the newest demos from the sdaincoming dir.

Contoton madness

Fabian Kollakowski and Mattias Berggren did an assault against Optic's records for Contoton.

Fabian did the demos on nightmare skill:

Matthias did the demos on easy skill: They also did a coop for the level: Easy 100% in 0:20.

Marathons

Markus has entered the marathon tables with an incredible record:

Then the demos from the usual marathonrunner, Marlo: That's all the demos for now. Incase you're interested in Quake2 demos and SP-maps, go check out Mr.Shambler's FPS Demos and Discussion. He has E-mailed me saying that he has posted several speedruns featuring new tricks, such as berserker punch jumps, double grenade jumps, double-hand grenade jumps. Sounds interesting, too bad that I've uninstalled Q2 ;)

Accessing our FTP-dir - 0:25

Just to clear things up, accessing our new ftp-dir really isn't that hard. You can use any regular ftp-client, like ws-ftp, cuteftp etc, and even your browser; click here to enter the sdaincoming directory (if you're using Netscape, you can use the 'upload file' option from the File-menu to upload your files). Now go check out Fabian's e1m1_054...

Important update - new updating system - 14:10

Hi there. As you know, updates have been getting quite scarce recently, even with the large amount of people doing it. We're just very busy people. So, we're trying out a new method. From now on, you will be able to connect to PlanetQuake and upload and download demos from a special directory. This saves us time in updating (we no longer have to upload the demos, the most tedious part of the update), and means you can get demos before they're updated.

Important: If you're uploading a demo, please tell us which demo it is, either by writing an email to the usual address, or by uploading a copy of the text file as well, outside of the zip. Else, we probably won't update it.

Anyway, to upload/download, connect to www.planetquake.com using an FTP programme, with username and password both set to sdaincoming and go to the sdaincoming directory.

Hopefully this will go well, let's hope there are no problems =)

Two Full Moons and a Trout - 16:42

At last, the long awaited update, and we have a grand total of 1 demo to give you. The star of the show is new player, XxSOULxX, who has sent me it no less than four times (maybe more), but it's definately a happy ending as it finally gets posted. Like the Ram Trilogy gatecrashing an ATB party, the cheesiness ends, and onto...

Quake2 done Too Quick?

Work has started (some time ago in fact) on a skill0 version of Q2dQ2, which we hope will become a proper movie. Expect a release sometime next millenium =)

Lots of cool Demos! - 0:27

Once again, a massive amount of demos. You'll find all kinds of demos: Normal single player demos, Normal coop demos, Marathons, and even Coop marathons. Enjoy the demos :)

'Normal' demos

Markus Taipale:

Optic: Alexander Osipov: Thomas Stubgaard: Marlo Galinski: Tim Doherty: Ilkka Kurkela:

'Normal' Coop demos

The second one is by Tommi Kyntola & Kari Valtiala: The third one is a 3-player MadCoop(TM) by Ravage, Shine & Mari Loli:

Marathons

Marlo has done something really impressive:

Kåre Slettnes: Optic: Tim Doherty: Ilkka Kurkela:

Coop Marathons

Robert Axelsson & Alexander Lindgren:

Last but definitely not least, a 4-player MadCoop(TM) by Mattias Berggren, Magnus Persson, Gunnar Rydberg, and Fredrik Egerstad: That's all for now. Incase you didn't know yet, I'm having a speedrun contest at Mineral's for my new map. The deadline for the contest is 19th November, there's still enough time for you to record your demos :)

11/2/1999 by Will

Tidle Protaxis - 4:28

Hi there. I've lost all the demos people have sent me. If you've sent a Quake2 demo that hasn't been updated, please send it to me.

Some time ago (sorry for the delay!) Brenda EP of Brenda's Game Page pointed me towards the "Iron Maze" on her page. It's basically a huge (huge huge) maze for Quake2. Take a look at it if you like, but you'll have trouble finishing it even with the solution =)

Now, if you haven't done so already, go and check out Mineral's cool Quake map.

New level & contest at Mineral's - 6:33

After quite a lot of work I've finally managed to finish my new SP level, The Mining Complex. The level is available at Mineral's and you should head on over there to check it out at once. In addition to a new SP experience, you'll have lots of fun trying to win the speedrunning contest, which I've set up for the map. So, get speedy! :)

10/24/1999 by Ilkka

The long awaited Marathons - 5:56

Here goes a lot of marathons that have been laying around, apologies for the delay on these demos. From now on, send your marathons to Stefan, his E-mail address is schwoon@in.tum.de. If you want to take a look at the marathon table, click here. Anyway, check out these crazy singleplayer marathons and enjoy the first coop (and even madcoop!) marathons. Here they go...

Optic:

Marlo Galinski: In addition to those ID marathons, he did _all_ easy 100% marathons for Hipnotic: Will Marsh: Kimmo Polvivaara: Coop Marathons

Robert Axelsson and Alexander Lindgren:

Marlo, Fab and Stefan did two Madcoops(TM): That's all for now. The new single-level demos will be updated later.

10/15/1999 by Ilkka

This week's Q1 demos - 9:13

Here goes lots of nice demos; many of them are ID improvements. In addition to singleplayer demos, you'll find some excellent Madcoops(TM)... :)

Singleplayer demos

Attila:

Markus: Thomas Stubgaard: Tommi Kyntölä: Marlo: Alexander: Multiplayer demos

Stefan visited Marlo & Fabian in real life and the trio made some really cool Madcoops, enjoy:

Fabian and Stefan:

Non-demo Q2 stuff - 1:15

Sorry for the lack of Q2 updates recently. I have demos to post but I've just moved flats and am busy with university so it will be a couple of days until I manage an update. But at least you know a) I'm alive and b) I will do an update =)

The winner of my Simpson's compy was Phil Hall. Congratulations to him! He will receive his prize shortly....because I haven't yet decided what it is. Watch out for more in the future!

10/10/1999 by Evan

Quake Demos - 21:36

Just a quick lil' update.

With his latest demos, Markus Taipale continues to dominate the Quake tables.

Tommi Kyntola and Kari Valtiala did a great 100% coop of E4M5 in 1:07, keep em' coming guys!

10/9/1999 by Ilkka

Q1 demos, finally - 2:52

Apologies, there has not been too many updates lately. The reason for this is the usual, being busy all the time. However, I found time to update today and I'll try to update again as soon as possible.

The demos

You should check out some of these new demos, as they are pretty cool. Here goes the normal demos (not going to update marathons) from the last two weeks or so. Starting with...

...Optic. He has produced 12 demos:

Alexander has done some impressive demos, including a massive ID improvement:

Fabian has been active as well:

Stefan did three important demos. The Black tables and IKSPQ tables are finally filled up completely:

Marlo Galinski has not been idle either:

In addition to Alex, Markus Taipale has been able to improve an ID record as well:

Johan Nilsson sent his first Speedrun to SDA:

Carl Tholin is back after a long break:

The new Mexx demo from Mr-J[!!] for this update:

Warren Hammond sent his first single player record to SDA:

Last but not least, Tim Doherty managed to improve his long Dissolution record:

Phew, that's quite a few demos for one update. We're still having problems with changing the records on the tables, so the old records are still on them.

9/25/1999 by Will

More Q2 'goodness' - 16:15

Don't you wish people would stop saying 'goodness'? It kinda gets on my nerves. And by the way, I am aware of the irony of using the word in order to decry it, so don't bother pointing that out. Instead, email me if you know the 'Simpsons' episode I took that from and win a mystery prize! =)

On the subject of email, could any mail be sent to my new address please. Thanks.

Now, onto the demos!

Newcomer Alexander Moller sends in his first (duh) demo:

Igor Rebolj complements his hard waste3 run with an easy one of the same time:

I managed two demos as well:

That's all for now. Catch ya on the flipside dudemeisters!

9/20/1999 by Ilkka

Miscellaneous Q1 demos - 6:16

I recorded two demos:

Markus improved one of his records:

Thomas Stubgaard improves his record even more:

Marlo improved Matthias' recent Mexx8b runs:

Tim Doherty did his first demo, improving the longest record ever:

Last but not least. A new trio, Josh Zayas, Warren Hammond and Bruce Wayne did two mad coops:

I had some trouble when changing the tables. Hence, the old records are still on them.

Slide MOD -demo collection

You may want to check out a new collection of demos that some people have done for the Slide levels. Head on over to this page to grab the demos. Incase you didn't know yet, Slide is a Quake MOD in which you can ride a hoverboard; really fun. The mod can be downloaded here. Interesting stuff :)

9/18/1999 by Will

Mini Q2 Update - 8:23

Hello again. It seems I only missed one demo out of yesterday's update, and it's a great one from Filip:

Actually I have another to post, but I don't know who it's by. So, if you sent in an easy city1 run, write and tell me what time you got.

You may have noticed that the Q2 database is pretty messed up. Apparently it's been moved onto a different server or something, so I can't get at it right now. /me goes off to pester Chris some more...:)

9/17/1999 by Will

Shock horror - A Q2 update! - 14:48

As you may have noticed, things haven't been too busy on the Q2 front at SDA. Gerald no longer has the time to update the demos, so I agreed to fill in for him. For those of you who don't know me (for shame!) I've been speedrunning for quite some time, and helped contribute to Q2dQ2. We have 17 demos to bring you, and I apologise as best I can to those who sent in demos around half a year ago (certainly seems like it).

Mr-J[!!] kicks us off with two boss1 demos:

Newcomer Bong gives us these demos:

Another new runner, Igor Rebolj sends in this demo:

Filip Söderholm and Jesper Lund sent in demos for the same map:

Finally, I contribute 2 demos on my favourite map :)

This being my first update, I've probably made loads of mistakes and forgotten demos etc; if you find a broken link or missing demo, or even want to congratulate me (a drink'll do nicely thanks), mail me.

9/17/1999 by Ilkka

All the Mexx tables filled! - 4:55

Matthias Belz has done a huge amount of work filling up the tables lately. For this update he did _all_ the remaining demos for the Mexx tables, and improved two old records. These demos include some really hard tasks such as Mexx8b nightmare 100% and Mexx9d nightmare run, the longest nightmare run ever. Anyway, if you don't have the Mexx levels yet, it's time to download them now. Here are the links to CDROM or Sunet m-o level directories.

Then to the tablefillers:

Matthias also found a weird trick in Mexx8b:

That's all for now. There are some really cool demos by others still to be posted. I'll update them as soon as I have time.

9/9/1999 by Evan

More Demos, 9/9/99 :) - 15:49

Watch out, there are some great new demos in this update!

Original Quake

First off is Markus Taipale, going to try RDE Markus?

Atilla improved one of his older records by a second.

New player, Nagasaki, improved an ancient demo.

Custom Demos

Fabian did a a good number of demos.

Marathon Runs

Marlo doesn't give up on the marathon runs.

Marathon runs are found here, I wasn't able to upload the other marathon run of his but when my internet stabilizes I will.

Coop Demos - 15:38

Hi, sorry for no updates from me. I still haven't received all my mail because I have 135+ mails and most with attachments. Cameron and I have gotten back into coop and made a few demos.

All of which are new to the tables. When I finish with my heavy mail download I will update some more demos.

9/7/1999 by Ilkka

Update -Demos - 9:23

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I have been really busy lately. Anyway, people have recorded quite a lot demos for ID & custom levels during the last couple of weeks; total 18 new demos.

Thomas Stubgaard did his first SDA demo, an ID -record:

Optic produced six demos:

Marlo has done some nice custom level demos:

Fabian spent some time on The Forsaken Citadel:

Mr-J keeps up the Mexx madness:

Then we have some new co-op demos,

Josh Zayas & Warren Hammond did three records:

Me and Juho improved the BBelief5 record:

That's all for now. Incase I forgot any (not marathon/RDE) demos, send mail. Please remember, when you do the .txt for your demos, don't forget to mention how much you improved the previous record, and who had the previous record. That helps a lot on updating, thanks.

New RDE demos - 4:04

Over at the Runner's Delight page new demos have been posted, go check 'em out.

8/23/1999 by Ilkka

Demos - 9:48

Some more demos for the 'non-RDE' maps, starting with an ID record...

... by Alexander Osipov:

Marlo Galinski improved two easy 100%s:

The fastest demos ever

Yes, you read correctly. The fastest demos ever, coop runs on Well of the Lost Souls by me & J-J:

Can anyone do this on single player? :)

Beyond Belief demos

Although the Beyond Belief tables have been on a 'break' for some time, there are still some demos to be posted. First of all, I recorded a demo for BBelief3:

A couple of weeks ago we did a coop with J-J on BBelief5, but I forgot to post it. Today, Warren Hammond & John Zayas sent a coop for the same level, but their time was one second slower. I'll post both of the demos here, as 1) the routes are different 2) they didn't know about the 'old' record.

Finally, when the SCBB -project was released a couple of months ago at QdQ, the both 100% demos for BBelief1 were improved. About the time to get these demos posted :)

8/22/1999 by Jesse

Oh yes, I forgot.... - 17:04

Ages ago Mattias and Fredrik Egerstad submitted a coop easy 100% marathon run of episode 1 in 6:41. It was a nice set of demos, however, the two forgot to do e1m8, so it was not a valid submission. We've known about this for very long now, but I guess we never got round to fixing it; better late than never. Check out the Marathon page for the current marathon-records.

I've also just received an amazing demo from Ilkka which I posted at the RDE page, where I will be doing a full update soon.

8/22/1999 by Jesse

CoopWorld & Fisheye - 12:37

Co-op in QuakeWorld?

I'm not sure exactly how much, but I do know I heard "Oh god this lag sucks, I wish coop was possible in QW" a LOT of times during madcoop. You can imagine my excitement when I got a mail from MoG mentioning a CoopWorld mod! Well, I downloaded the thing, and tested it with the Madcoop team on saturday, but it wasn't far as cool as I had hoped. Okay, it HAD monsters in QuakeWorld, but that was basically where the good stuff ended. Monsters kept respawning 3 or 4 times (probably the author's idea of creating more of a challenge), and all the DM weapons were still in the levels (yes the RL in e1m1 too). Speedrunning would be completily impossible as the mod uses the DM starts as spawnspots, and not the coop starts. These problems didn't seem fixable, however I didn't spend too much time trying to work it out. If it has your interest, check out the CoopWorld site.

Episode 1 done Quick with FOV 250!

While cleaning out my bookmarks I stumbled on the Fisheye Quake page again, which is maintained by PQ's Aardappel. Fisheye Quake is basically a modified version of the executable, based on the (unreleased) source code that lets you use FOV's higher than 180, any FOV you want to be precise. It's very useful for DM I suppose, but that's not what this is on SDA for. The cool thing about this is that the page has a movie available of the easy SDA runs of episode 1, played back in FisheyeQuake with FOV 250! It's for you high-bandwidth types only (unless you're a real fanatic), as the file is a big fat 34 meg AVI. Anyway, still very entertaining and highly recommended, get it here (34M).

"Non-RDE" demos - 11:10

While most of the people have been busy recording demos for RDE, some people have done demos for the 'usual' custom maps. Also, Attila and Max Rebo have managed to beat one ID map record each. Here goes total 36 demos, enjoy!

Matthias Belz fills up the tables with 23(!) demos...

...and improves my Mexx1 runs with a new route:

Daniel Lindberg recorded four demos:

Fabian Kollakowski did two demos:

People who have recorded one demo:

Ilkka goes Hipnotic again - 5:41

Ilkka has run all of SoA in 11:28 - Definitely worth watching and sorry for the delay on this Ilkka :-)

As ever Marathon runs can be found here.

More RDE speed - 3:39

More Runner's Delight demos for you, and pretty ones, too! I just updated them to the RDE page; don't forget to check out the table over there.

Here's the update:

Ilkka and Juho did two amazing new coops. Fab & Marlo did a cool demo too: Daniel Lindberg improves his 'old' RD1M2 record: Josh Zayas gets this demo into the tables: Kimmo Polvivaara is still doing very well one the end map. Here's two new demos from him: Arno Slagboom adds a new 100% on RD1M4 to the tables: First nightmare 100%
Nolan Pflug returns to speedrunning doing what he does best: Nightmare 100% running. Anyone with aspirations to enter the Easy 100% contest of RD1M3 will definitly want to check this demo out.

Two very impressive demos
Attila found the bar-trick in RD1M3! Woohoo! I received a lot of easy runs on RD1M3, but he seemed the only one to have discovered it. It's the only trick I'd never seen done in a speedrun before, so I just had to built in into RDE. Great job Attila! And finally, be warned, Ilkka has entered the Single Player-fray too...

8/17/1999 by Jesse

First Runner's Delight demos! - 16:49

Over at the new Runner's Delight page you can find the first load of RDE-demos. Since this is the first time RDE demos are updated, I wanted to list all demos I received, so that's why they are at the RDE page (I didn't want to spam SDA with lots of demos that are not going to be added to the SDA-system). However, next time, you'll find all RDE demos up here, so you don't have to worry about having to visit two sites for demos :)

8/15/1999 by Chris

e1m3 Coop Demo - 14:53

It's been a while since I've posted a demo of my own here (or any demos for that matter ;) but due to a relocation to California, being on a LAN all day, and finding a coop partner to play with, I finally have something worth posting: Thanks to fellow GameSpy employee and speed-running partner, Patrick 'Void' Cupka, for his assistance with this one.

8/13/1999 by Jesse

QdQ Missionpack 'Runner's Delight' Released - 17:42

RDE is out!! After ages of hard work, the thing is finally done. In case you didn't know, here's the update straight from the new RDE page:
The Runner's Delight Episode is a new 6-level Quake 1 episode, designed specifically for speedrunning, (but also suitable for single play and DM). This means that all levels offer lots of quadded-rocketjumps, doublegrenadejumps, barreljumps etc. etc. But, shortcuts are not required to finish the levels - they just provide you with a quicker route.
Stop wasting you time reading this, grab it NOW and get running!!

Ofcourse, RDE demos will be accepted here on SDA. We will add the levels to the database very soon, so you can send your demos in to sda just like you're used to. There are three exceptions: those are the runs that are used for the contest on the new RDE page. These runs are: All other spaces in the tables should be filled quickly, good luck :)

8/12/1999 by Ilkka

Demos - 13:27

Matthias Belz fills up the tables with seven new demos:

Fabian has produced four demos:

Mr-J[!!] sends more demos for Mexx levels:

Qurre improved both Flyer 100%s:

Finally, I have improved one SoA demo:

That's all the demos for this update, enjoy them, and make sure that you don't miss the RDE release party tomorrow! :)

Runner's Delight soon - 14:40

The Runner's Delight Episode, the missionpack for speedrunning, is nearing completion, finally. Still some stuff needs to be done, but the end is definitely close (and it ought to be, it's already later than the promised deadline). There's some further info and a cool new screenshot up at the Runner's Delight progress page, check it out.

Mr-J[!!] is back to Quake running with fast demos for Mexx5:

I recorded easy run for hip1m2 in 0:12, improving my previous record yet by one second. This must be optimized now...

Coop demos

Me and Juho recorded four coops for Hipnotic levels some weeks ago. Here they go:

Marlo and Fabian have done two impressive easy 100% demos for ID levels:

News On Colony - 23:13

While downloading some custom maps yesterday I noticed that the author of the map Colony has deleted the original off all the sites and replaced it with an upgraded Colony map. I think its only right that I clear the original colony demos and start new tables for the upgraded map, only because the original doesn't exist anymore. Sorry to all those (including myself) who have worked to optimise the Colony map but whats the point of a record if nobody can watch it. Anyways, I hope to see some good demos come in.

7/28/1999 by Evan

Small Update - 1:52

A broken keyboard didn't seem to slow down Thomas Bergendorff as he recorded a few nice demos.

Markus Taipale did a perfect Nightmare run of E4M2 in 0:34 improving his previous record by 1 second.

Marlo Galinski does an Easy 100% of Disturb in 0:44 improving Thomas's time by 1 seconds.

I've also done my first run in quite some time, mainly because I have a new computer. I improved my year old Court Despair Easy run by 7 seconds coming up with a solid 0:47. BTW: This demo was recorded before I downloaded QdQStats on this computer so it might say 0:48 on intermission but it is like 47.98.

7/22/1999 by Evan

Custom Demo Update - 0:30

Optic seems to be the 'main man' for this update so here's his demos. Thomas Bergendorff does a very nice Easy run of The Fatal Place in 0:51 improving Erik's ancient time by 6 seconds.

7/19/1999 by Evan

Watch Out Now! - 15:41

Daniel Lindburg has done a good share of demos.

Markus Taipale has cranked out a couple of impressive demos.

Attila and Peter haven't been idle either nailing the Easy E1M1 coop time to a blistering time of 0:22 improving their old time by 1 second.

Optic improves Tom's Nightmare 100% of Networld by 27 seconds to get 2:11.

Will's back! Improving Yonatan's H3M4 Nightmare 100% by 75 seconds(!!!) to get 3:54 keep them coming Will!

Also my friend Eclipse sent me this hilarious movie, you have to see this! (Quicktime required)

Demos updated - 3:14

Here goes the new demos at last. Some of them have been laying around for quite a while, but better late than never. There are singleplayer demos, 2-player coops and a couple of mad coops as well.

When you send demos, add a line like this to your .txt: "improved player's previous record by ? seconds.", thanks.

Unreal runs + 1 madcoop - 6:53

More non-Quake 1 speedrunning news: a few days ago, Mr. Shambler of TEAMShambler Quake Level Reviews posted some more Unreal speedruns over at his demo site Lost Spirit Custom Level Demos. But, unlike the earlier demos he did, these are *not* on custom maps but on the in-game levels, the id on...eh..Epic ones (yea, I wondered what they are doing at a custom demo site too :) Anyway, once again lots of rocketjumping action and other tricks in Unreal, so check it out.

My 'madcoop-homiez' and me did a new demo too :)

Upcoming Q2 Stuffs - 10:05

I've been away for more than a week at an international bridge competition, just returned and still recovering from the lack of sleep. Anyway, there should be a Q2 update soon, probably the 6th... a special day for me. Also, big news: Q2dQ2 running has completed! We're now going through a series of beta testing and bug-hunting, and hopefully Q2dQ2 should be released before Friday. I've watched through the entire run and I must say.. if you were impressed with Colin's excellent 27:34 maddash through Skill 0, Q2dQ2 on Skill 2 (and in a much faster time) will totally blow you away.
